How do I make Garry's mod run faster?

Ever since the update after TF2 became free Gmod has ran very slow. However the frame rate has been perfect. I've scanned my computer and i have no viruses. I know that it's not just me having a bad computer because when I play other games that would lag a lot on a lower quality computer.
